I recently downloaded the Kid’s Academy app called Preschool and Kindergarten Learning from the iTunes app store. I have been really impressed so far with the ease of use and how engaged it keeps the twins. The free version allows you to complete tracing of several letters and numbers, and the first few letters in the alphabet game. That was enough to realize that the kids really liked it and purchase the full version. It’s pretty expensive, at $9.99, but it opens up access to eight different apps within the one larger app. You also have the option to download the apps individually for $2.99 each if you find that some of the apps pique your interest more than others.

I particularly like this app because of the letter tracing. It is similar to using Montessori sandpaper letters, which is a great fine motor tool to use to introduce writing. You are able to trace the letters to collect the fireflies, which makes it more fun for the kids. The alphabet game gives you a letter and you find objects on the screen that begin with that letter sound, which is a great early reading and language activity. We will be delving deeper into the app when we get home from vacation, but so far it has been worth the investment!

Until our next adventure,
